- History Caffè Europa is located in the centre of Ferrara close to Hotel Europa and communicating with it. It has always been represented a meeting point for our inhabitants.
In “Ferrara Storia” review of 1994 the writer says: “ Caffè Europa and the homonymous Hotel is one of the last commercial reality that has kept a local traditional character, surviving to the present mania of transforming historical buildings in anonymous boutiques, financial agencies, etc… It is one of the oldest places where our inhabitants can meet to know and remember the events of the town.”
Caffè Europa has in fact a long history; we find it mentioned in a communaledict of 1846 with the name of Caffè Apollo. The first time we find the name “Europa” is in 1874. At the beginning of the last century the Caffè had a show-room for the pastry and another large elegant room, embellished with light mirrors, attended by the writers and intellectuals of the time, as Gabriele D’Annunzio and Giorgio Bassani. Many articles have been written about Caffè Europa and many the famous orders: in 1990 the cake for the Pope visit in Ferrara and the coloured and decorated cakes for the fashion stylist Ottavio Missoni.
After some months closing, Caffè Europa opened in November 2007. Thanks to the collaboration with Hotel Europa, the Caffè has a large room for banquets and some frescoed drawing-rooms available. One of them is very charming; it has a picture of Napoleon, that is said to be his personal present to the landlord at that time.
In these elegant rooms Caffè Europa and Hotel Europa can organize meetings, brunches and coffee breaks, fitting the setting-up and the service to different requests and needs.A peaceful and pleasant summer area is available for the Caffè guests.
